East Gippsland Shire Council’s clean sweep in Airport Safety Week competition

The Australian Airports Association (AAA) today launched its new Airfield Lighting Essentials online course for people working at airports across Australia.

AAA Chief Executive Officer Caroline Wilkie said the course was the first of its kind and would equip participants with an understanding of airfield lighting systems.

“Airfield lighting is an essential component of the safe management of our airports and this course will give more staff the chance to learn about best practice in our industry,” Ms Wilkie said.

“This is a great introduction for staff new to airports, and an important refresher for those who have worked in the industry for some time.”

The course includes content on the fundamental components of airfield lighting, work, health and safety considerations and industry best practice.

It is ideally suited to those seeking to improve their general knowledge of system components, how they operate and how they perform to ensure a compliant lighting system is maintained.

Ms Wilkie said the online format ensured all airport staff – no matter where they lived and worked – could access the course.

“We know it can be difficult for staff in the regions to take time out to travel long distances for training courses,” she said.

“The online format means participants can access course materials anywhere, anytime to ensure they get the most out of their study.”

The course builds on the AAA’s Airfield Lighting Practice Note. For more information and to register for the course, click here.
