Opened in 1963, Jandakot Airport is the major General Aviation airport in Western Australia, and is one of the busiest airfields and largest aviation training bases in Australia.

The position offers exposure to a wide variety of safety management disciplines, with the primary focus being the day-to-day management and coordination of the airports safety management system and internal/external safety auditing.  Key responsibilities include:

Assist the Safety Manager in:

  • Managing the Safety Management System, including safety promotion, safety management and safety assurance.
  • Processing safety reports and assist in the co-ordination of safety investigations.
  • Preparing minutes for relevant meetings.
  • Maintaining training records and scheduling of training courses as required.
  • Coordination of pre-employment medical assessments.
  • Continued development of the risk register.
  • Promoting a positive safety culture and safety awareness within the organisation and externally.
  • Maintaining DAMP records.
  • Conduct of internal and external audits.
  • Ensuring compliance with the CASA and WHS WA and other relevant legislation.
  • Administrating staff and contractor induction processes.
  • Updating documentation as required.
  • Supporting emergency response at the airport as required.

Qualification and Experience

  • Qualification in WHS.
  • Understanding of aviation safety management systems.
  • Understanding of risk management principles.
  • Auditing qualification.
  • Excellent written skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to confidently and positively communicate in a culturally diverse setting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • C Class drivers’ licence.
  • Have, or be able to complete, Provide First Aid.
  • Pass pre-employment Drug & Alcohol Screening Test in accordance with Part 99 of the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations.
  • The ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally, with all levels of management

Desirable

  • Lead auditor qualifications
  • Technical aviation experience will be highly regarded.
