AAA welcomes Tom Ganley as National Chairman

Tom Ganley has been confirmed as the Australian Airports Association’s (AAA) new National Chairman following the AAA’s annual general meeting today.

The appointment follows Guy Thompson’s decision to step down from the role after two successful terms. Mr Thompson will remain on the Board as Immediate Past Chairman.

“Tom has been a valued member of the Board for the last five years and I am delighted the AAA will continue to benefit from his leadership and insight as our National Chairman,” Mr Thompson said.

“Tom brings a great deal of experience of both major airport and regional issues and has a keen sense of what is important to our members and stakeholders.

“He is the ideal person to take the AAA forward as we continue to advocate for our members in a complex and ever-changing policy environment.”

Mr Ganley is the deputy chief executive officer at NT Airports, which operates Darwin, Alice Springs and Tennant Creek airports.

He has more than 31 years’ experience in aviation, having previously held senior finance and commercial management roles at many of Australia’s major airports, including Adelaide, Alice Springs and Darwin International airports.

He has been the AAA Board’s NT Director since 2014 and FARM Committee Chair since 2016.

“The airport industry offers so many opportunities for those of us fortunate to work within it and it is a real honour to be able to support the success of our airports as National Chairman,” Mr Ganley said.

Mr Ganley thanked Mr Thompson for his contribution during two terms as National Chairman.

Mr Thompson joined the AAA Board in 2005 and was named Deputy Chair in 2012. He was appointed to the role of National Chairman in 2015.

“Guy has always worked tirelessly in support of our industry and his contribution to the AAA cannot be underestimated,” Mr Ganley said.

“He’s been a champion of airport operators large and small, and a great believer in the importance of strong industry representation for our members.

“I’m really pleased Guy’s continuing role on the Board will allow us to keep working together to advance the key challenges and opportunities facing our industry.”
