Hot topics in aviation discussed at Victorian division meeting
The Australian Airports Association (AAA) hosted its Victorian division meeting today, bringing together member airports across the state to discuss the hot topics in aviation.
AAA Chief Executive Officer Caroline Wilkie said more than 30 people attended the event in Sale, 220km from Melbourne.
“Our division meetings are a fantastic opportunity for airport leaders to meet, network and discuss the issues that affect them all,” Ms Wilkie said.
“Today’s meeting in Sale included some great discussions on a range of subjects, showing there’s a great deal of passion for our industry across Victoria.”
Wellington Shire Council Mayor Caroline Crossley formally opened proceedings, highlighting the importance of aviation to the region.
“Wellington Shire has a proud aviation history with an exciting future including the runway extension at West Sale Airport,” she said.
“It is pleasing that the AAA chose to meet in Sale and learnt more about Wellington’s aviation capability.”
Melbourne Airport Head of Aviation Operations Katie Cooper was also named the new Chair of the Victorian Division at the meeting.
She brings extensive industry experience to the AAA Board as she commences her term.
Warrnambool Regional Airport also provided an overview of their operations at the meeting, sharing insights on the unique challenges and experiences of a regional airport.
The day concluded with a tour of the RAAF Base East Sale, giving members an opportunity to go behind the scenes at this important training and operations facility.
Ms Wilkie said division meetings were held twice a year in each state and territory to bring together staff from major, regional and remote airports.
“In Victoria, our airports have an essential role to play in the state’s economic development, tourism, trade and regional connectivity,” Ms Wilkie said.
“Today’s agenda has confirmed that the industry is delivering some outstanding initiatives for passengers and communities across the state, of which our members can be very proud.”
The next Victorian division meeting will be held at the Australian International Airshow 2019 at Avalon Airport in March.
