Regional airport funding proposal welcome news for Victorians
The Australian Airports Association (AAA) has welcomed the Victorian Opposition’s proposal to provide $24 million for regional airport upgrades in the state.
AAA Victorian Division Chair Paul Ferguson said the election commitment recognised the importance of the regional aviation network to the state’s economy and community.
“A dedicated Regional Aviation Infrastructure Fund would provide a welcome boost for the people living and working in regional Victoria,” Mr Ferguson said.
“As airport infrastructure works typically have a lifespan of 20 years or so, the benefits of a fund such as this would be enduring and community shaping.”
The Opposition has committed to a $24 million investment over four years if elected to help upgrade regional airports as part of a plan to decentralise jobs and the population in Victoria.
Mr Ferguson said regional airports provided vital connection for communities and a sustainable funding model was vital to ensure their long-term future.
