Women in Airports Online Forum 2020

This year, due to the current restrictions with COVID-19 and the postponement of the National Conference until November 2021, we are excited to host the Women in Airports Forum as an online event.

The online forum will be held on Wednesday, 11 November from 11am – 2pm. The theme of the forum is ‘Building Resilience and Empowering Yourself.’

Our speakers will provide you with tips to build resilience, teach you the skills to empower yourself and to gain the confidence needed to take the next steps to further your career and personal goals. This online forum is guaranteed to be fast paced, engaging, thought provoking and will re-energise you to finish 2020 on a high and begin 2021 with a new mindset. If you are looking to further your network, build new relationships and learn new life skills this forum is a must attend.

Boo is an established entrepreneur, business owner and today, an executive leadership and performance coach. At the age of 19 Boo was recruited into the Royal Australian Air Force as a pilot and completed over 11 years as an elite fighter pilot, one of only 400 trained over a 38 year period.

The product of a $15 million dollar training program, Boo reached the pinnacle of his career as a Squadron Leader, before his medical discharge for a chronic auto immune disorder known as Ankylosing Spondylitis. At 30 years of age Boo made a life changing decision, boarding a commercial flight to Kabul Afghanistan, where he founded CTG Global, a Humanitarian business delivering projects on behalf of United Nations agencies. Over a period of three years Boo cut his business teeth in one of the worlds most demanding, challenging and dangerous environments on the planet, successfully growing the business until its sale four years later. As an interesting side note, CTG established Afghanistan’s first mortuary service. Today CTG is a multi-million-dollar company with operations spanning the globe. Boo subsequently transitioned into property development and hospitality, his company built the world’s tallest prefabricated modular hotel in the Australian city of Perth, completing a two year project in only 11 months. The project set a record for the construction of 17 stories, completing the structure in only 11 weeks.

She is an educator and regular speaker on aeronautical business development, with a particular interest in regional airports. Cally’s passion for aviation began at an early age, as she experienced other languages and cultures travelling with her family. She grew up with the expansion of the travel industry, travelling to medium-haul packaged destinations, riding the wave of Low Cost Carrier development in Europe, and finally becoming a frequent flyer for business.

Scientia Professor Helen Christensen (AO) is Director and Chief Scientist at the Black Dog Institute and a Professor of Mental Health at UNSW.

She is Chief Investigator for the Centre for Research Excellence in Suicide Prevention, National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Elizabeth Blackman Fellow in Public Health, and previously one of only two NHMRC John Cade Research Fellows. She is also on the Million Minds panel, a government initiative that has brought together the most distinguished academics and mental health professionals to reduce the prevalence of mental illness and suicide.

Professor Christensen is a leading expert on using technology to deliver evidence-based interventions for the prevention and treatment of depression, anxiety, suicide, and self-harm. Her research also encompasses prevention of mental health problems in young people through school-based research programs. These programs are aimed at prevention of depression and suicide risk through eMental Health interventions.

Mieke brings more than 17 years of experience in managing B2C and B2B businesses. Before Amadeus, Mieke worked for Expedia Group, where she held the role of Senior Vice Presidentand Chief Commercial Officer of Egencia, the corporate travel brand of Expedia Group. Earlier, as the Vice President of Expedia Group’s Lodging Partner Solutions, she was responsible for growing and managing the hotel relationships in Asia Pacific. Prior to Expedia Group, she spent 10 years with Phillips Electronics having held various global, regional and local leadership roles in product, marketing and sales. She started her professional career with McKinsey. Mieke is passionate about diversity, gender equality and an inclusive environment in the workplace,and works to achieve that through her leadership style and participation in internal and industry forums. A Dutch national, Mieke has lived in Singapore for almost 15 years, while also having worked and lived in Europe, Latin America and USA. Mieke holds an MBA from INSEAD and an MSc in Industrial Design Engineering from the Delft University of Technology.
