About the opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced Aviation Manager from the Aviation and Wildlife industries who has an in-depth understanding of CASA guidelines and an awareness of wildlife hazards as the Aviation unit’s primary service is to oversee wildlife risk assessments, prepare airport wildlife management plans, deliver wildlife strike mitigation programs and provide technical advisory services including, building and maintaining effective client relationships, preparing tenders, as well as scheduling and logistics.

This opportunity would suit a highly experienced Aviation Manager or Aviation/Wildlife Biologist who has experience managing large projects.

Biodiversity Australia’s head office is located at Ormeau, QLD with offices located NSW, Nth Qld, Chinchilla, Katherine. We could be flexible with where this role is based for the right candidate.

The responsibilities of this role are:

  • Compile, edit and review scientific documents for clients, and legislation driven applications, permits and reporting.
  • Experience with building and maintaining client relationships;
  • Ability to conduct critical analysis and evaluation of business performance and growth;
  • Support the Unit Project Coordinators and other divisions across a broad range of related projects when required.
  • Support projects to ensure they are completed to both internal and external client expectations; and
  • When required, represent Biodiversity Australia in a variety of public forums and marketing opportunities, including media, conferences and community events.
  • Maintain an understanding of wildlife and aviation-related legislation and guidelines, particularly relating to vertebrate pest management, over-abundant native species management and Civil Aviation Safety Authority acts and regulations; and
  • Support development of tender documents and submission.

About you:

If you have experience within Aviation and Wildlife industries with a passion for biodiversity management and take a consultative approach to increasing client opportunities, then this would make the perfect role for you. Your aviation industry knowledge, well-developed relationship building skills and commitment to delivering project outcomes in a timely manner will be critical to your success in this role.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Relevant experience within a similar role and/or tertiary qualifications ecology, zoology, natural resource management or equivalent;
  • Demonstrated experience within the aviation, defence and/or consultancy sector(s) is highly regarded;
  • An understanding of CASA regulations and wildlife hazard management is desirable;
  • Demonstrated experience in project management;
  • High-level written and verbal communication skills;
  • Experience in conducting wildlife assessments and reporting;
  • Field surveying techniques including fauna surveys, GIS data collection and mapping is desirable;
  • Ability to apply for and receive an Aviation Security Identification Card;
  • Current drivers licence and the ability to travel when required is essential.
