The Civil Aviation Safety Authority’s (CASA) primary function is to conduct the safety regulation of civil air operations in Australia, Australian civil airspace and the operation civil air operations in Australia, Australian civil airspace, and the operation of Australian aircraft overseas.

CASA is seeking applicants to join the Regulatory Oversight Division who are ready to use their extensive experience in an Aerodrome Inspector role, supporting our national operating model.

We are seeking candidates who work collaboratively and cohesively with their colleagues, peers and regulated entities conducting aviation operations nationally and internationally in accordance with CASA’s obligations under the Civil Aviation Act 1988 (the Act).

Regulatory Oversight Division have one (1) immediate non-ongoing (limited term) vacancy for 12 months to cover a period of parental leave. This vacancy will be also used to create a merit pool to fill future non-ongoing and ongoing vacancies as they arise.

The CASA Inspector (Aerodrome) spans one or more of the following functions:

  • provision of regulatory guidance to the aerodrome industry and other CASA staff on the implementation of aviation safety legislation;
  • ensuring personnel and organisations performing an aerodrome activity meet the legislative requirements before they are permitted to exercise the privilege;
  • ensuring aerodrome approval holders continue to meet the legislative requirements and function at the level of competency and safety required, and the resolution of identified deficiencies by an aerodrome approval holder.

The roles may encompass aerodromes, safety management or other similar technical disciplines depending on the knowledge, skills and experience of the inspector.

Reporting to aerodromes leadership team, this role will work within a locally or nationally managed team of CASA Inspectors working collaboratively and cohesively.

These roles require an understanding of various aviation industry sectors, civil aviation legislation hierarchy and supporting material. These positions are identified as safety sensitive.

The incumbents may be required to perform, or be available to perform, safety sensitive aviation activities, as defined in the relevant regulations.
Inspectors are responsible for applying technical knowledge to resolve queries, conducting regulatory assessments, and/or leading and participating in surveillance events in accordance with CASA policy and procedures to ensure effective oversight of regulated industry participants.
